A link password provides extra security for your email transfers, ensuring that only recipients who have the password can access your file(s) or folder through the download link. A strong password protects confidential information by preventing unauthorized access, which is especially important if the email is accidentally sent to the wrong recipient.

You may set a link password either:

  • during the process of uploading the file(s) or folder you want to transfer, or
  • after the upload and email transfer are complete.

Set a link password during upload

  1. Sign in to https://portal.sendlinx.com and click on Send, in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

  2. Enter the email address of each recipient.

  3. Click on the Link Password (optional) field, and then create a password containing a minimum of eight (8) characters, including numbers and letters (both upper and lower case) but no symbols.

  4. Set an Expiry Date for the link, if desired, and compose a message to the recipient(s).

  5. Click on Add Files or Select A Folder to select the file(s) or folder that you want to transfer.

  6. Review all of the details you entered into each field and keep a copy of the link password you created.
Note: Ensure you have not included the link password in your email message field; in order to preserve the integrity of this security feature, the password should be sent to the recipient(s) in a separate email, or communicated by another means of your choosing.

  7. Click on Send to continue.

  8. A confirmation screen will appear when Sendlinx has successfully sent the email containing the password-protected download link to the recipient(s).

  9. When a recipient uses the download link, they will be prompted to enter the link password and click on Submit in order to access the uploaded file(s) or folder.

  10. After the link password is verified, the recipient(s) will be able to access the uploaded material.

Set or change a link password after upload

  1. After an upload and email transfer have been completed, and the download link has been sent, click on Link Manager in the menu on the left side of the screen. Link Manager contains a summary of the transfer details and download links for each uploaded file or folder.

  2. Find the upload you want  to protect with a link password and click on the corresponding pencil icon in the Link Password column.

  3. In the Link Password (optional) field, create a password containing a minimum of eight (8) characters including numbers and letters (both upper and lower case) but no symbols. Be sure to keep a copy of the password you created.

  4. Click on CHANGE to continue and wait for Sendlinx to apply the link password.

  5. The password you created will now appear in the Link Password column.
  6. If you wish to change the link password, click on the corresponding pencil icon in the Link Password column. Enter a new password in the Link Password (optional) field and click on CHANGE to continue and wait for Sendlinx to apply the new password.

  7.  The new password you will now appear in the Link Password column and the old link password will no longer allow access to the uploaded material.
